The CapnoTrainer® GO

The CapnoTrainer® GO brings together physiology, psychology, and technology to create powerful learning tools for identifying good and bad breathing habits, for learning to disengage bad ones that compromise physical and mental competence, and for learning new ones that promote health and performance.

Based on live real-time feedback of breath-to-breath changes in alveolar CO2 concentration, the GO provides for learning breathing habits that optimize respiration and its associated acid-base physiology. Allowing for the reflexes that align breathing mechanics with respiratory chemistry is essential to optimizing health and performance.

The instrument is a combination hardware and software system that provides users with training and learning tools for personalized breathing education based on the principles of behavioral analysis through the presentation of both live and recorded physiology. There are three versions of the GO: Personal, Basic, and Professional.

The GO is a uniquely powerful learning tool for a wide range of educated audiences with a serious interest in breathing science, including both practitioners and their clients: human service providers, health educators, fitness trainers, mental health professionals, corporate coaches, counselors, teachers, personal trainers, performance consultants, and self-help specialists (e.g., yoga and meditation).

The GO is battery-operated, Bluetooth, wearable, light weight (185 grams), small (fits in your pocket), and nearly silent (slight ticking sound). It operates on PC and Apple computers, tablets and I-pads, and Android and i-phones. The GO software connects to most third-party HRV Bluetooth devices and will operate up to six GO and HRV devices simultaneously in its Group mode.

Using Biofeedback to Learn Better Breathing | biofeedback Health Training Seminars

Breathing is an essential function that impacts our physical and mental well-being. Even though it is vitally important, many of us pay little attention to the way we breathe. However, with biofeedback technology, there is a growing interest in using this innovative approach to teach and optimize breathing techniques. Biofeedback is a cutting-edge method that provides real-time data about physiological processes, enabling individuals to gain greater control over their bodily functions. Let’s explore how biofeedback can be a powerful tool for mastering the art of breathing.

ABOUT BIOFEEDBACK

Biofeedback is a technique that allows people to monitor their physiological responses and gain insight into their body’s activities and responses. Using specialized equipment, such as sensors, electrodes, or monitors, biofeedback captures data on various bodily functions, including heart rate, skin temperature, muscle tension, and breathing patterns. The data is then presented in a user-friendly manner, allowing individuals to recognize and modify their bodily responses in real-time.

BENEFITS OF BIOFEEDBACK FOR BREATHING

Biofeedback offers several advantages for those seeking to enhance their breathing techniques:

Heightened Awareness: Biofeedback enables individuals to become more aware of their breathing patterns, often revealing irregularities or inefficiencies that they otherwise would not notice.

Real-Time Feedback: With instant feedback on their breathing, people can make immediate adjustments, leading to faster learning and improved performance.

Personalized Training: Biofeedback allows for personalized breathing training based on an individual’s unique physiological responses, providing more effective results.

Stress Reduction: By mastering proper breathing techniques, one can lower stress levels, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of calm and relaxation.

Biofeedback Training for Mental Health Disorders

Mental health disorders including anxiety, PTSD, and depression seem to have become more widespread over the past several years.  Is it that more information has become available and there is less of a stigma for people to seek mental health services?  Is it a combination of effects of the pandemic, mass shootings, and national and international unrest?  Whatever the reason is, the fact is that help is needed.  Biofeedback training is among the many effective tools that mental health professionals can use to help people suffering from mental health challenges.

Psychologists and other mental health providers tend to do a lot of talking and paperwork as a part of their routine.  Some of this can become monotonous.  Biofeedback can introduce technology that helps the clients of mental health providers to learn about themselves.  It helps them to learn how to make real, physiological, measurable changes.  They learn to change how their body reacts to stress using biofeedback.

NEUROFEEDBACK AND STATE REGULATION IN ADHD

NEUROFEEDBACK AND STATE REGULATION IN ADHD: A THERAPY WITHOUT MEDICATION: Werner Van den Bergh, M.D., Translator: Stephanie Clark. The original Dutch manuscript receives an English translation and is updated with recent neurofeedback and ADHD research. Dr. Van den Bergh, a Belgium neuro-psychiatrist and neurologist who is a noted expert in the field of neurofeedback and ADHD and operates a private center dedicated to neurodevelopmental disorders, delivers a powerful overview of the current scientific evidence for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as a legitimate and distinct disorder, and brings together seemingly disparate research from diverse medical and psychological disciplines with a strong emphasis on EEG, sleep, and neurofeedback studies.
Dr. Van den Bergh further argues that neurofeedback (also known as “EEG-biofeedback”) should be strongly considered as a front-line treatment of ADHD. In short, this book provides an advanced look at ADHD and its treatment through neurofeedback that is essential reading for psychologists, neurotherapists, psychiatrists, physicians, neurologists, and anyone interested to learn more about this complex disorder and its treatment.”

Quick & Easy Stress Reduction Solutions – Part 2

Spending Time in Nature

In my last article I discussed the importance of learning simple stress management solutions that you can use easily in everyday life situations. Life is complicated and we are all very busy. It can seem difficult to find extended amounts of time to practice relaxation exercises. I presented my first simple stress solution which was using essential oils. https://biofeedbackinternational.com/quick-easy-stress-reduction-solutions-part-1/#more-3634

Stress Reduction Solution #2 is Spending Time in Nature

There are not too many things that are more relaxing than spending time outdoors on a day when the weather is just right. When you add to that being near the ocean, a lake or river, and maybe even a waterfall it makes it even better. Vacation spots near the water are among the most popular destinations because people seem to have a natural desire to be near the water when they want to relax.

Other outdoor activities like hiking and camping are also very popular ways people spend time in the great outdoors. Homeowners even spend a lot of time and money to make the space around their houses more comfortable so that they can spend time outside.

A March 30, 2017 article based on research at Brighton and Sussex Medical School showed that playing nature sounds caused changes in the bodily systems that run the flight-or-fright and rest-digest autonomic nervous systems, including effects that evidence resting activity in the brain.Dr. Cassandra Gould van Praag said, “We are all familiar with the feeling of relaxation and ‘switching-off’ which comes from a walk in the countryside, and now we have evidence from the brain and the body which helps us understand this effect.”

I came across another article from NBC News that referenced other research about the benefits of spending time in nature. Here says Irina Wen, Ph.D., clinical psychologist and clinical director of the Steven A. Military Family Clinic at NYU Langone Medical Center says “Nature can be beneficial for mental health,”. “It reduces cognitive fatigue and stress and can be helpful with depression and anxiety.”
